live in concert

On Thursday night (2/2) Amy and I stepped onto the floor at Madison Square Garden for one great night of music from billy joel. He played from roughly 8:30 to 10:30 nonstop. The show started amazingly abruptly with the crowd still filing in, billy jumped right in with a rocker from his Turnstiles album (1976) - Angry Young Man. The energy was high and we were dancing in the aisles, he played all the old favorites - New York State of Mind, Allentown, Pressure, Movin’ Out, She’s Always a Woman, We Didn’t Start the Fire, Big Shot, and It’s Still Rock ‘n’ Roll to Me. The show seemed to scream by and before I knew it the crowd was chanting Billy’s name as he waved and walked off the stage. For his encore he played 3 more songs and the crowd grew louder with each song… Only the Good Die Young, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, and of course Piano Man. Piano man was actually a second encore but it seemed that most people knew he couldn’t end a concert without playing it.

I have seen 3 major concerts in New York since moving here in Aug. 04, bruce springsteen, elton john, and now the piano man. It is safe to say that this was the best of the 3, hands down. The energy that he brought to the stage and the way he involved the crowd made for something spectacular.
