beer for a bag

Yesterday when I woke up I was reading a few news sites as I typically do on a weekend morning. Yesterday though was a bit different as I typed over to Gothamist and was immediately directed over to this article. It didn’t take long before I knew what had to be done… I needed to buy beer and exchange it for a new bag! I grabbed Amy and we headed for the West Village in search of the proper beer. What seemed like an easy task turned difficult when I realized that all the grocery stores sell the same selection of beer… bud, budlight, corona, heineken, tacate, coors, and a few other standard brews - none of which were gonna cut it! What I needed, which can be seen at the crumpler beer for bags site, was some serious beer. I originally wanted the “Complete Seed” messenger bag which retails for $145. BUT, I couldn’t track down a case of Leffe to save my life. So instead we turned our attention to Sapporo and soy sauce which in trade gets a “Moderate Embarrassment” laptop bag (made for the 12/13 inch laptops).

We showed up with the Sapporo and soy sauce and put it on the already enormous beer stack in the front window… before I knew it they were offering me a cold beer of my own to enjoy while looking throughout the store (which is so tiny, I was done before cracking the top of my cold guiness). After chatting with the workers and picking up our new bag we headed out happy with our acquisition. All in all we spend $23 bucks on beer and $2 bucks on on the soy sauce for an $110 dollar bag. Great steal in my book… Although it should be noted that we got an exceptionally good deal because of the fact that we only brought half of the required beer due to an error on the part of the owner. Before we went to purchase the beer we stopped by the store to make sure it was legit (We would absolutely hate to be stuck with that soy sauce!) and were told that 12 beers was enough for that bag ... but upon returning we found out that we in fact needed to bring 24 (a full case). They let it slide and we were good to go.

After the sale is over they are throwing a huge neighborhood party with all the beer for those who got bags and their friends.
